So the past week or so I have been digging around the new gaforflash library that Google has put out. At first I thought I would give an overview but the more I dug around the more I found that Google actually did a great job to provide information on how to use the library properly! So I thought I would share a few links and just highlight the key points that I found. First this is first and thats to download the necessary components provided in the google code repository located, here.
Next Google asks you to follow some pretty basic installation instructions for the two components you just download.
1. If you have Adobe Flash CS3 currently open, quit the application.
2. Create a Google directory in one of the following locations:
* For Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\ Adobe Flash CS3\language\Configuration\Components
* For Mac OS X: Macintosh HD/Applications/Adobe Flash CS3/Configuration/Components
3. Navigate to the location where you unzipped the component ZIP file and copy the following files to the directory you created in the previous step:
* lib/analytics_flash.swc — The Analytics Component
* lib/analytics.swc — The Analytics Library Component
Refer to this page for more info on how to use the two separate components. But more or less the Analytics component is for people not completely familiar with Actionscript 3. And the other one called the AnalyticsLibrary component is used for those of us who are familiar with Actionscript 3 and want more control. Both can be easily setup and you can start using them almost right away. Google also provides a lot more info on the site. I imagine I will have a couple of demos put together very soon for you guys to follow. But for now I think Google has plenty for you all to get started. Also check out this post that Jesse Warden made on Why Google Analytics for Flash. Enjoy!
