px4 - making a come back!

Hey guys sorry its been so long since my last post! Lots of great new exciting news going on in my world. I started a new job at Click Here in Dallas, TX. I will be heading up the Flash team and helping them structure the group to work in a more team type development process. I have been very busy learning their system and processes that the company has. Also spending lots of time building up some great new internal projects for Click Here. Some I can't talk about but many others I will be sharing as time goes on. I am in no way planning to leave the blog behind. I love keep to up with the Flash world and share the wealth of knowledge that I find here on the nets. ;)

Thanks for being patient with me and I will defiantly have lots of new news to share with you guys in the very immediate future! Thanks again! Cheers!

24 hours without your main squeeze!

Ok so hopefully not you main squeeze but maybe your PC. It's that time again for the global 2008 Shut Down Day! The event will take place May 3rd, 2008 and all you have to do is shut down all your PC's and go play out side for a day! Yes, really, outside! And no not in your Second Life's backyard with your binary dog! Outside under the UV rays and the hopefully clean air around you! :)

So to help spread the word and celebrate the event I have made not one but two Wordpress Badge Widgets for you to also help spread the word! You can see one in my side bar column! But I'd love to see them in your sidebar columns. So jump on it. Download the Badge of your choice and start spreading the word. We don't have much time so lets get this started! Thanks Guys!

Each of the widgets contains 6 different sizes to fit any of your needs. Sizes are 88x31, 120x60, 120x90, 120x240, 125x125 and 234x60. There are two color options RED and WHITE. They are simple to install too just download the ZIP extract it and upload the PHP doc to you wordpress plugins directory, activate and viola! Your all done!

Also if you'd like to use this on a page other than a wordpress blog just copy and paste the code below.

<div class="shutdowndayBadge">
<a href="http://projectx4.com/shutdownday" target="_blank">
<img src="http://projectx4.com/shutdownday/red/banner_88x31.gif" alt="Shut Down Day 2008" />
</a>
</div>

You can easily change the color by editing the img path from 'red' to 'white or vice versa. And change the size by simply changing the image name to the dimensions listed above. So a new image name could be src="http://projectx4.com/shutdownday/white/banner_125x125.gif".

If you find any problems with the widget please leave me a comment and I will get it fixed ASAP. I can't wait to see how many people we can reach out to and help our world by taking just one day off from our world of pixels!

new design… bear with me.

hey guys I am working to get a new design implemented into the blog. so if you are seeing any weird issues let me know. But over the next few weeks you might be seeing some strange things going on. I'm trying my best to keep them offline until I have it all worked out but you know how that goes. ;) I'm being a little trigger happy but it won't be to bad I promise! Thanks for the support.

Oh I should have some new tutorials coming soon. I'm looking at how to have a page just dedicated to them only!

And if any of you CSS whizzes wanna help out that would be much appreciated!

Ping back comments?

Are these healthy? I am noticing a lot of these in my comments waiting to be moderated in Akismet. I notice some of you bloggers let them float around in your comments and others don't.

Since I am fairly new to the blogging world I wasn't really sure what these were doing. So I followed the link in one and realized it was more or less other blogs regurgitating my posts for thier content. Some of the pingpacks relink back to my blog which can't hurt in search engine ranking. But what's the real motivation? What's you guys thoughts? I mean I am glad to share the news but is it crippling me in anyway that I am not seeing?

Flash Embedding - Wordpress

So last night I was trying to embed the flickr gallery 'swf' from my post yesterday. But I was having some serious issues with either Bad Behavior or Akismet stripping away my javascript when trying to embed it directly in my post. So I was forced to find a different/quick workaround. Solution was Kimili. Its a simple wordpress plugin that makes embedding flash easy as:

[kml_flashembed movie="/path/to/your/movie.swf" height="300" width="300" /]

So no more worries and it even makes use of SWFObject if you desire. Big thanks to the guys who built Kimili! Great work!

a couple of updates…

Ok so as you can tell the blog has taken on a new look and most likely will do so again in the near future. The current look is 'vader' from K2 for now. But I'm hoping to get time tonight to at least work on the header! But for now, thanks k2 for the improvement!

Also this weekend I spent about 2 hours putting together a really simple coming soon page for projectx4.com that shows off some of the work I have been doing the past two years. Its nothing special but at least there is something new up. I hope over the next few months to get a new site up. But I haven't set any deadlines for myself yet since i'm not totally sold on the design I have built so far.

While adding K2 to my blog I also setup some more stuff for keeping those pesky spammers away so you may notice that as well. And the blog roll keeps getting bigger also as you will notice some new additions over there. Anyway thanks for visiting a reading.

And last but not least I bought a PRO account at flickr! w00t! mostly cause they limit you from making only three set with the standard free account? Thats what suckered me in. sigh* I mean come on 3 sets! Pretty weak. Anyway I added some photos of my home and work offices. I will post more soon but you can at least you can see all the pretty macs I get to work on!

Wordpress Plugins for Google Analytics

Hey guys this is just a general post hoping some of you readers might have some input on implementing google analytics into wordpress.  Its more for fun than anything just to see where all you guys are coming from nationally and globally. I did a quick google search on the topic and came across semiologic's google analytics plugin. Have any of you guys used it or had experience with other ones? The semiologic one doesn't yet support the new google a.js analytics code from google. So I was just wondering have you guys found one you like well and that maybe works the new ga.js code? Thanks for the help!
